'They' say that we're getting bigger as the years go by, and companies are merely shifting the goalposts and making sizes larger. I got a very obvious indication of this recently after ordering an old pattern from the 1940s for a halloween costume. Going by the sizing on the back I am a UK 14 waist and size 20 hips!! Now I know I'm pear-shaped but that just takes the piss. Especially since yesterday I went out and purchased a size 8 dress which actually feels a little too big for me. No wonder we're all in a state of denial.
